Sites of the Quarter - Summar 2003
Every so often we'll feature two transit related sites as well as an occasional non-transit site that we think would be interesting to our visitors to check out. One site will be the official site of an agency and the others will be a fan and/or special sites. This quarter's entries are:
- Official Transit Site of the Quarter - Chicago Transit Authority at www.transitchicago.com
Transit Chicago is the official site of the Chicago Transit Authority. CTA operates the nation's second largest public transportation system and covers Chicago and many surrounding areas. On an average weekday, 1.5 million rides are taken on the CTA buses and trains.
Want to talk about tons of buses? CTA has approximately 1,900 coaches that operate over 134 routes. CTA coaches make about 1 million passenger trips (Count 'em) a day and serve 12,000 service stops. CTA also has about 1,100 rail transit cars that run on seven routes and 222 miles of track. CTA trains make over 1,400 trips each day and serve 143 stations. You can learn more by going to their excellent website at www.transitchicago.com.
- Fan Site of the Quarter - Routes International at www.routesinternational.com.
As their welcome page says, Routes International is "Your Gateway to the World of "People" Transportation & Travel
by Land, Rail, Sea, and Air." This website contains many, many links to most transit, rail, boat and plane travel sites on the web and even has a Yahoo Group as well as a booking service. They also have links to support industry for the transit and travel industry and stuff dedicated to the workers of the above. Check it out and prepare to spend some time...might as well grab a cup of java or a pop. See their nice site at www.routesinternational.com.
- Special Site of the Quarter - eLivemore.com at www.elivermore.com
Although this site is not related to the transit industry, I thought I feature non-transits here too! Our first Special Site of the Summer Quarter is eLivermore.com. Since November of 1999 eLivermore.com provide community information and links for Livermore, Pleasanton and the Tri-Valley area. eLivermore provides links to local businesses, organizations and government, features a community calendar, a " Things to Do" list, restaurants and churches. They also feature local photos, we mean MANY local photos.
The best thing we loved about eLivermore was the historical photos of Livermore. Recently their webmaster posted over 200 photos covering Livermore from the late 1800s to the present. Looking at the photos, you can spend hours taking a look on how Livermore looked back then and what it looks like now. You can see the history of the famous Flag Pole in downtown Livermore, what the old Fire Station looked like back then and much more. Take a peak at this site at www.elivermore.com. Many kudos to their webmaster for the wonderful site!
